CEO Bio

After a 22 year career as a Software Engineer, Keith DeWald turned his attention to applying some of the image processing technology he had mastered in programming broadcast video equipment to the arena of mosaic tile mural design and fabrication. After writing software to design a mural from any artwork or design to be composed of a palette of tile colors available, and software to run a workstation to guide workers in fabricating one square-foot of a mural at a time, he founded Becoming Tile, LLC.

Before long Becoming Tile was commissioned to create and fabricate a 4300 square foot glass tile mural for the Wing Lung Bank in Alhambra, California – the largest glass tile mural in North America at the time. Becoming Tile has been entrusted with other large projects including Centennial Plaza in Montrose Colorado, The Institute On Aging Senior Center in San Francisco California and the Smith Aquatic and Fitness Center in Charlottesville Virginia among others.

The Wing Lung Bank and Smith Aquatic and Fitness Center both won 1st place in the Coverings Spectrum Award competition at the largest trade show for tile. Because of the process developed by Keith the capacity of Becoming Tile can be scaled up to meet any requirements for a project no matter how large.

Becoming Tile is located in the beautiful foothills west of Denver near Evergreen Colorado where Keith lives with his wife, Mary Pat, and their dog, cat and many deer, elk, foxes, and other wildlife. Becoming Tile uses American employees for all fabrication of its works of art.
